Geeky dream (coming true?)

My hard-to-satisfy inner geek could find some solace this week. It involves every computer in the house (except yours truly’s new work system, which is fine and will be left alone, thankyouverymuch!), some hardware rearranging and an awful lot of reinstalling. The goal, ladies and gents, it to have my old system cleaned and wiped, to become The Kid’s computer (so his wireless card needs to be put inside this one). His is to be cleaned and wiped (after making a backup of his files, pictures and, most importantly, saved games) and to become the computer linked to the TV (and will be getting a new graphic card). The laptop is to be wiped and cleaned and to become Herb’s computer and double as my work station away from home. My current external hard drive is to be filled with pictures and stored at another location. Now the new external hard drive will hold all of our music in electronic format, will be based with the tv-computer but will be practical as hell, since any of us will be able to take it and connect it to their system to tweak the content of their mp3 player. Add a new wireless router into the mix (bought before Christmas), add some time to figure out whether we can add ram to the laptop and whether the “new” tv-computer will need it as well. Then add a lot of data transfer time, and what we’ve got is a happy geeky bandit! (yes, I am voluntarily not taking into account all the gazillion possible glitches in that plan…)
