I’m walking, yes indeed
I have two walking speeds. Quite fast, for when I have a purpose or destination (and I was told as a teen that my walk is funny because my legs are short and quick — really something I needed to be told: I ended up walking self-consciously for years!), and mellow, for when I’m just taking a walk. When I take walks with Herb (I swear, in between surgeries, he does have the ability to walk!), I often have to remind him to slow down, that we’re not going “anywhere”. Well the other day I was walking with Laïka, and I realized that I was using my slow pace, thinking myself on a leisurly walk. Well, cat people who haven’t had dogs for twenty years have a lot to learn, and what I learned then was that the poor sweet doggy wanted me to walk faster! She’s used to her own female human walking her at a brisk pace, turning their walks into good workouts (I’d be stupid not to jump on that opportunity!). I accelerated, and I swear there was a smile in her step. (Now how that dog manages to walk faster uphill is quite a mystery to me… unless her plan is for me to take a breather once at the top and allow her to sniff all that she wants to sniff, in which case she is simply a brilliant canine specimen!)
